A Visual Arts Zealot, Steve paints and photographs with intrigue and interest. His subject matter and style delves deep, to provide us with insights into other notions and concepts of the world we live in. Steve asks “What if” often and has a goal to bring some of his world to our wold, hoping to inspire and uplift, or challenge and confront. Steve tackles the “patina of life” looking at textures and colours that can bring the works alive and imbues deeper contact with the world as we know it.
The glyph like graphic marks of many of his newer works, are usually direct strokes and thickly textural. With seemingly ambiguous meaning, the marks become carriers of a more personal symbolic content. Although a sense of landscape can be attributed to his compositions in many cases, giving the viewer an insight into the elements which make up the images. Landscapes as perhaps a more personalised approach to a series of broader environmental issues (personal and wholistic).
